14 - Mom II
A cute little A comes home from elementary school in tears. His mother asks what's wrong, and between sobs he tells her about the other kids picking on him.
She says, "Don't listen to them. They're only jealous because you're smarter and more handsome than they are." And she pulls him into her lap and strokes his hair, which he is frankly a little too old for at this point, but it calms him all the same.
"I know," he says. He has heard this before.
"Little brats," she murmurs. "Their mothers are just the same. Everyone looks down on us."
He doesn't need to ask why. This, too, is something he has heard. "I just wish I had friends."
"You don't need friends," she replies, sweet as anything. "You have me."
And he frowns a little, because whoever heard of being friends with your mother? But it does cheer him up. It's nice to know that somebody loves him. He's very lucky to have such a good mother.
